About the Department of History

Inaugurated in 1990, the Department of History is one of the founding departments of Al-Mamoun University College. Its curricula were designed to align with those of education colleges in Iraqi universities. Over the years, the department has graduated 23 cohorts, with its alumni contributing to staffing numerous secondary and preparatory schools under the Ministry of Education, as well as other governmental institutions. Many top-performing graduates have pursued advanced studies, and some now hold academic positions in various Iraqi universities. The department carries both an academic and national mission: to disseminate and reinforce historical culture, equipping students to teach history effectively and contribute to the historical narrative of Iraq, the Arab world, and humanity in general.

Vision

History is a cornerstone of the Iraqi identity, rooted in over seven millennia of civilization. Building upon this legacy, our historical curricula serve as a medium for intellectual and cultural dialogue between the past and the present. Our history is replete with civilizational and political ideas that affirm the value of the Iraqi women and their right to live with dignity on their ancestral land.

Mission

In their essence, history curricula convey a comprehensive humanitarian message that revives ethical and human values from ancient and Islamic civilizations. The Department of History's curricula emphasize the importance of the three pillars of education: the professor, the student, and the academic content in building Iraq.

Objectives

  1. Provide students with comprehensive historical knowledge and concepts.
  2. Equip them with a scientific background in methodology objectives, characteristics, and principles.
  3. Familiarize them with modern approaches to teaching history at the micro-unit level.
  4. Develop their professional teaching skills, with a particular emphasis on history instruction.
  5. Uplift the patriotic spirit and ethical values through professional preparation for history teaching.
  6. Cultivate their teaching, research, and academic participation skills in preparing and presenting academic content, with the goal of developing their personalities in social interaction and administrative leadership.
