High Voltage Laboratory

About this facility
The High Voltage Laboratory is one of the laboratories of the Electrical Engineering Technologies department. It covers the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power and the devices that protect and control those systems.
It holds a standard hall for high and extra-high voltage testing, and contains an impulse generator and a set of high-voltage instruments for conducting experiments in the field of high voltages.
The laboratory receives groups of third and fourth year students in the department. The department describes it as one of the leading laboratories of its kind in Iraq, given how few specialised laboratories in this field exist.
Its role
High voltages can only be worked with in a laboratory built for them. Having one means an electrical engineering student trains on protection and measurement systems rather than reading about them.
